Review 16: Singapore's Authoritarian Capitalism Asian Values, Free Market Illusions and Political Dependency, by Christopher Lingle (1996)

Reviewed by:
Randall G. Holcombe,
Florida State University

"Professor Lingle makes a significant contribution to the study of developing nations by convincingly showing that there is less to the Asian miracle economies than there first appears. Over the long run, economic growth is not consistent with political oppression. Anyone who really wants to understand the political economy of Asian development must read this book."
